Senior Partner, Private Equity Practice

The Role

Nexus Search Partners is seeking a Senior Partner to lead our Private Equity Practice. This role will be a critical driver of business development and search execution, and responsible for building and scaling our fastest-growing division. The Senior Partner will manage the full life cycle of retained executive search engagements for private equity firms and their portfolio companies, serving as a trusted advisor to investors, operating partners, and C-suite executives. This is a high-profile leadership role within Nexus, requiring deep search expertise, strong commercial acumen, and an established network in the private equity ecosystem.

 

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Partner, Private Equity Practice, will play a leading role in driving growth and execution across several core areas:

Business Development & Client Leadership

  • Originate, develop, and sustain client relationships with private equity firms and portfolio companies.

  • Drive revenue growth through new business generation, expanding Nexus’ footprint in private equity.

  • Act as a trusted advisor on executive talent strategy, succession planning, and market intelligence.

  • Collaborate with other practice leaders to leverage relationships across verticals.

  • Represent Nexus as a thought leader, building enduring partnerships grounded in trust, insight, and impact.

Search Execution

  • Lead retained search engagements for C-suite and senior executives across functions (CEO, CFO, COO, CRO, etc.).

  • Define role specifications in alignment with client strategy, investment thesis, and growth stage.

  • Design and implement robust sourcing strategies, leveraging direct outreach, networks, and referrals.

  • Oversee candidate assessments, including in-depth interviews, leadership evaluations, and cultural alignment.

  • Guide clients through candidate selection, compensation structuring, and onboarding processes.

  • Serve as a credible advocate for both clients and candidates, ensuring outcomes that drive long-term value creation.

Practice Development & Team Leadership

  • Build, manage, and mentor a team of consultants and researchers dedicated to the Private Equity Practice.

  • Establish business plans, financial targets, practice-specific goals, and KPIs aligned with firm strategy.

  • Contribute to Nexus’ intellectual capital through thought leadership and private equity market insights.

  • Represent the firm at private equity conferences, forums, and networking events.

  • Champion Nexus’ purpose-driven culture, fostering collaboration, performance, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of retained executive search experience with demonstrated success in the private equity sector.

  • Proven track record of originating and executing senior-level searches for private equity firms and portfolio companies.

  • Established book of business and network within the private equity community.

  • Strong leadership experience, with ability to build and inspire high-performing teams.

  • Exceptional business development, client advisory, and negotiation skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

  • Location is flexible.
